How to Buy Bitcoin & Crypto with Bizum

Bizum is a familiar way to move money in Spain, but it isn’t available as a payment method on CEX.IO. Still, that doesn’t limit your ability to access digital assets on our platform.

When you create an account, you receive a free CEX.IO Wallet, which lets you buy, sell, send, receive, convert, and trade Bitcoin and other crypto through our web-based platform and mobile apps. Depending on your location, you can use widely supported payment methods such as credit and debit cards, SEPA bank transfers, and popular mobile wallets to get started, even if Bizum itself isn’t supported.

What is Bizum Payment?

Bizum is a mobile payment system created by a consortium of Spanish banks to make everyday money transfers faster and simpler. You use Bizum to send, receive, or request money instantly using just a mobile phone number, without cards or cash. It is widely used in Spain for splitting bills, paying friends, online shopping, donations, and even in-store payments. Bizum suits people who want quick, bank-backed transfers without the friction of traditional bank details or separate wallets.

How does Bizum work?

Bizum works directly through your bank. You activate it inside your bank’s mobile app by linking your Spanish IBAN to your phone number. From there, payments move straight between bank accounts in seconds. When you send money, Bizum uses bank authentication, such as app approval or a code, to confirm the transaction. There is no separate balance to manage and no card involved; everything runs on your existing bank account infrastructure.

How to Buy Bitcoin & Crypto with Bizum

At the moment, it is not possible to buy crypto with Bizum directly on CEX.IO. While our platform supports several mobile wallets and payment apps, such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, and PayPal (for U.S.-based users only), Bizum is not available as a standalone funding gateway.

That said, Spain-based users have plenty of reliable alternatives. CEX.IO supports credit and debit cards as well as SEPA bank transfers, which allows you to buy crypto with Caixa Bank or Santander, using a Visa or Mastercard, or fund your CEX.IO account through a SEPA transfer and then exchange fiat for Bitcoin and other supported cryptocurrencies.

How to Buy Bitcoin at CEX.IO: a Step-by-Step Guide

Since Bizum is not supported on CEX.IO, the simplest and most practical alternative is to buy Bitcoin with a credit or debit card. This method is widely available, familiar to most users, and works much like any standard online payment.

Step 1: Create and Verify Your CEX.IO Account

Sign up on CEX.IO with your email address and set a secure password. After registration, complete identity verification. This step unlocks card payments and helps keep your account secure and compliant.

Step 2: Open Instant Buy and Choose Bitcoin

Log in to your account and open the Buy Cryptocurrency section from the dashboard. Select your fiat currency, enter the amount you want to spend, and choose Bitcoin (BTC) from the list of supported assets.

Once done, click Buy Crypto Instantly to proceed to our Add Funds page.

Step 3: Pay with a Credit or Debit Card

On the Add Funds page, select credit/debit card as your payment method. Enter your card numberexpiration date, and CVVreview the order details, and confirm the payment.

You can also save your card to speed up future purchases.

Step 4: Receive BTC in Your Wallet

After you confirm the payment, Bitcoin is credited to your CEX.IO Wallet. In most cases, this happens within minutes, although processing time can vary depending on your card provider.

What other Payment Methods can be used to buy Bitcoin on CEX.IO?

If Bizum is part of your everyday payments but isn’t available on CEX.IO, you still have plenty of other ways to access Bitcoin on our platform. CEX.IO supports a broad range of payment gateways designed to cover different regions, preferences, and use cases, from instant purchases to bank-based funding.

FAQ

No. CEX.IO does not support Bizum as a payment method at this time. That said, you can still buy Bitcoin with Santander or CaixaBank credit or debit cards, fund your account via SEPA transfers, or use supported mobile wallets such as Google Pay and Apple Pay, depending on availability in your region.

You use Bizum through your bank’s mobile app. After activating Bizum and linking your Spanish IBAN to your phone number, you can send or request money by selecting a contact, entering an amount, and confirming the payment with bank authentication. Transfers usually complete in seconds, with no cards or separate balances involved.

Bizum is generally considered a secure payment method, as it is backed by major Spanish banks and relies on bank-level authentication for every transaction. Payments are made directly between bank accounts, and you confirm each transfer in your banking app.

That said, other payment methods accepted on CEX.IO, such as Google Pay and Apple Pay, operate under similarly strong security standards. These services add extra layers like tokenization and device-based authentication, while also being directly supported on our platform for crypto purchases.

There’s no real reason to avoid Bizum itself, as it’s familiar and easy to use for many people in Spain. The bigger consideration is availability. Very few, if any, major licensed exchanges support Bizum. If you want to use established platforms like CEX.IO, it makes more sense to rely on bank cards, bank transfers, or widely supported mobile apps.

A Bizum transfer usually completes in seconds, as money moves directly between bank accounts in real time. In terms of speed, this feels very similar to card payments or mobile wallets like Google Pay and Apple Pay, which are also designed to process payments quickly and are supported on CEX.IO for buying crypto.

Bizum is accepted primarily in Spain, where it is widely used for peer-to-peer transfers, online shopping, donations, and payments in physical stores. Thousands of Spanish merchants support Bizum, but acceptance outside Spain is very limited. For crypto-related payments, most international platforms, including CEX.IO, rely on more widely supported methods instead, such as Google Pay or Apple Pay.

No. Bizum works only with Spanish bank accounts and mobile numbers, so it isn’t available in the United States. That said, U.S.-based users can still buy Bitcoin on CEX.IO using credit and debit cards issued by major banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of America, Capital One, and U.S. Bank.

In addition, eligible customers can also buy crypto with PayPal on CEX.IO, which is available exclusively to U.S.-based users.
